The Sad Berry
Once upon a summer
In a hood quite thorny
Heat then no flummer!
Grew a big Bushberry
It had thorns to stick
And leaves so gracious
Berries blue and thick
Tasty, and delicious
But among them all
One berry laid in shade
Oh, it stayed small
Too sour for marmelade
All others were so blue
It remained pale green
Why? it had no clue
Sweet it should have been
While it was lamenting
A kid came in the wood
Humming and singing
Wandering for food
He saw the dark grapes
Of berries so tasty
The well-rounded shapes
Swollen and juicy
He reached out his hands
And started the harvest
Filling his pants
With only the best
The berries so proud
To be the ones chosen
To be picked out
A handful, a dozen
Our berry pale and sour
Was thrown down on the soil
Shorty did not ignore
It would be a sore toil
The kid home went back
Eating up all his gain
And the berries so black
Were never seen again
But, on the barren ground
After the winter cold
The spring sunrays found
A sad seed, lone and old
The sun king shone so well
That, after a few rains
Where our berry had fell
A gracious bush now reigns!
